The Conselho Superior de Estatística (Statistical Council), established by Law No 22/2008 of 13 May, is the entity of the State which guides and coordinates the National Statistical System.

It is chaired by the member of the Government responsible for the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (hereinafter referred to as Statistics Portugal). Its Vice-Chairperson is the Chairperson of Statistics Portugal.
