Yes, the Portal publishes monthly information for Portugal on retail trade turnover resulting from the Turnover and Employment Indices - Indices of Turnover, Employment, Remuneration and Hours Worked in Retail Trade. The Turnover Index is published at current prices (as a result of calculating the index from the information collected) and at constant prices (deflated). As this indicator is based on the value of sales made by companies, it is particularly important to analyse it after removing the effect of price changes (inflation/deflation). The deflator used is obtained from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) with constant tax rates for greater consistency with the concept of turnover. This deflator is calculated based on five-digit elementary indices of the CPI – COICOP (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose). The elementary indices are then aggregated using a weighting structure obtained from the Survey of Large Commercial Units (UCDR) and the Survey of Commercial Enterprises.
The data are subject to regular revisions covering months n-1 and n-2, mainly resulting from the incorporation of new information, the replacement of estimates with actual data, or the replacement of previously provided provisional values with definitive ones. Regular general revisions cover all months of the previous year and are carried out annually, with a view to incorporating more complete information that has become available in the meantime. With the publication of month n, months n-1 and n-2 are revised. With the publication of March, in addition to the revision of the previous two months, all months of the previous year are revised.
